PSU improves quality assurance in Student Affairs via training and development programs for staff and student leaders across five campuses

From 18 to 20 April 2025, PSU organized a student affairs quality assurance workshop for university staff and student leaders from all five campuses. This initiative aligns with the university’s student development policy and aims to enhance the quality of student activities to better support student competency development and strengthen PSU’s institutional identity. The event was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub, President of PSU, who also delivered a special lecture titled “PSU Student Development Policy for Academic Year 2025.” The training sessions took place at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Cultural Studies and the Southern Science Park, PSU Hat Yai Campus.

The workshop featured a series of key activities designed to elevate the quality of student development across PSU’s five campuses. Highlights included a presentation on “Best Practices in Student Development at Hat Yai Campus” delivered by the Student Development Division, Office of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations. A “Student Organization Relationship Building” activity helped foster inter-campus collaboration, while a session on “PSU Student Activity Quality Improvement” was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supawadee Naorungroj, Assistant to the President for Student Development.

Participants engaged in group presentations and discussions to exchange ideas and share insights gained during the workshop. Another highlight was the “PSU Student Smart Leader” workshop, facilitated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaiyut Tawharanurak, Assistant to the President for Alumni Affairs at Thammasat University.

Additional activities included a brainstorming session on implementing the university’s policy theme “PSU One Family through PSU Student Activity,” a “PSU Student Leader Walk Rally” at Songkhla Old Town in Mueang District, and a concluding session titled “Knowledge Exchange for Effective Student Organization Management Across Five Campuses.” Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub stated that the workshop was initiated in alignment with PSU’s student development policy, with the goal of promoting and enhancing the quality of student activities across all five campuses. He emphasized that if student affairs personnel and student leaders can implement student development initiatives in accordance with the university’s quality assurance framework, the outcomes will be significantly impactful. PSU students will develop the PSU Students’ 5 Competencies, embody the PSU Student Identity (I-WiSe), and cultivate individualized competencies. These efforts will ultimately contribute to producing well-rounded graduates who are well-prepared and highly competitive in the 21st-century workforce.

The president also emphasized the importance for university executives, staff, and student leaders to recognize the crucial role of student development in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape. He urged all members across the university to actively implement student development policies, ensuring that all five campuses collaborate effectively to nurture high-quality students and graduates who are widely respected and clearly reflect PSU’s unique identity.

He further highlighted the vital role of student leaders in fostering creativity and initiative, noting that today’s students possess a diverse range of skills and up-to-date knowledge highly relevant to the modern professional world. In this regard, he called on administrators and university personnel to act as mentors—providing consistent guidance, support, and encouragement.

Moreover, the president encouraged student leaders to view their roles not only as responsibilities but also as valuable opportunities for personal growth. He stressed the importance of taking pride in their contributions—not only through organizing student activities and supporting their peers but also by serving as positive role models within the PSU community.
