Young PSU researchers join STS Forum 2024 in Japan on science, technology, and society

On 6 October 2024, in Kyoto, Japan, PSU was represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mathinee Yucharoen, a researcher from the Faculty of Environmental Management, and Dr. Pawita Boonrat, a researcher from the Faculty of Technology and Environment, at the "STS Forum 2024 – the 21st Annual Meeting." They participated in the special activity, “Dialogue between Young Leaders and Nobel Laureates,” as part of the Young Leaders for 2024. The event featured five young researchers selected by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) to represent Thailand at this prestigious forum.

At STS Forum 2024, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) hosted a panel discussion titled “Driving Innovation and Shaping a More Resilient, Secure, and Sustainable Future by STS Forum Young Leaders.” Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anak Khantachawana and Ms. Sirinporn Deawtrakool, research system experts from NRCT, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dusit Athinuwat serving as the host, the session featured Thailand's five Young Leaders. These researchers shared insights into their innovative work, highlighting Thailand's transition into an exciting era of innovation and research to address both national and global challenges. Key issues from the discussion included:

- Environmental Conservation: Development of IoT networks to monitor mangrove and coastal ecosystems
- Computer Engineering: Creation of tools to evaluate compliance with privacy laws tailored for SMEs
- Transportation: Exploration of “Urban Air Mobility” concepts to redefine future urban transit
- Medical Technology: Advancements in biomaterials and tissue engineering innovations.
 

These projects reflect Thailand's commitment to leveraging science and technology to improve quality of life and create meaningful regional and global impact. The forum provided an invaluable platform for the new generation of Thai researchers to showcase their potential internationally. This marks a significant step in establishing global standards and gaining recognition for Thai research capabilities while fostering the growth of a Global Partnership network across all academic dimensions.
