PSU joins League of Tropical Universities Summit 2025 in China, furthering international academic collaboration among tropical countries

From 13 to 15 April 2025, PSU, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, along with representatives from the Faculty of Science, headed by Prof. Dr. Anchana Prathep, Dean of the Faculty of Science, participated in the League of Tropical Universities (LTU) 2025 Summit. The event, themed “Consultation, Contribution and Shared Benefits: Towards a Shared Future of Higher Education for the Tropical Region,” was held at Hainan University, People’s Republic of China.

During the summit, PSU was officially approved as a member of the League of Tropical Universities (LTU). The LTU network seeks to promote higher education and socioeconomic development throughout tropical regions, foster collaboration among member universities and research institutions, and encourage cultural exchange among participating countries. PSU representatives also actively engaged in discussions on the future directions of cooperation within the LTU network. Key topics included strengthening international collaboration in digital education, improving the quality of education at tropical universities, advancing human resource and research development in tropical agriculture, and promoting student and researcher exchange programs.

During the LTU President Panel Talk, senior executives and distinguished experts from leading universities and global organizations—including Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Office in Beijing; Prof. Luo Qingming, President of Hainan University; Prof. Yang Zongkai, President of Wuhan University of Technology; and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas—shared insights and exchanged perspectives on the topic “Digitalization in Education.” The session emphasized key strategies for advancing digital education within the unique context of tropical regions.

Additionally, during the breakout session on “One Health and Tropical Disease Prevention & Control,” Hainan University extended an invitation to PSU to join the Hainan International One-Health Institute—an international collaborative center focused on advancing global cooperation in medicine and public health.

PSU’s participation in the summit marked an important milestone in strengthening international academic collaboration, especially among tropical countries. The event also provided a valuable platform for capacity building, knowledge exchange, and research development, all contributing to the sustainable progress of higher education throughout the region.
