The Songklanagarind COVID Collaboration Camp (SCCC) at the Nursing Care Center for the Elderly, Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization and the General Prem Tinsulanonda Historical Park Foundation is well equipped with personnel and medical equipment. With confidence in the standardized safety management system, they are prepared to open additional hospital units at the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King's Accession to the Throne International Convention Center to serve the growing number of patients in Songkhla province.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Puttisak Puttawibul, SCCC Director, revealed that the camp, in collaboration with Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization, the General Prem Tinsulanonda Historical Park Foundation, Songkhla Provincial Public Health Office, public and private hospitals in Songkhla province exposed to the first wave of COVID-19 outbreaks, is able to accommodate COVID-19 patients who are less than 50 years of age, presenting no or mild symptoms, no underlying diseases (e.g. respiratory disease, diseases of the cardiovascular system, diabetes), and can support themselves in performing daily activities. The camp can accommodate approximately 80-100 patients.
At the time of writing, more than 20 new cases are diagnosed per day. The SCCC has the potential to accommodate patients, and is able to handle the situation. In addition, the International Convention Center provides space for another field hospital to accommodate patients from various areas in Songkhla province. Able to accommodate approximately 200 beds (expandable to 500-700 beds), the location opened on 23 April 2021 to accommodate the increased number of infected patients.
"The SCCC is ready with doctors, nurses, medical staff and medical equipment, able to accommodate patients for several more months. A team of doctors and nurses devote themselves to assist in the recovery from any causes of this pandemic. Hence, we would like to ask for cooperation from the people to help each other at home; wear a face mask, wash your hands, and please do not visit areas of high risk for infection.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Puttisak concluded.
SCCC leader Assoc. Prof. Monthira Tanthanuch explained that the extension area has been divided into distinct zones. The command center, responsible for coordinating the registration and preparation of medical equipment, does not come into contact with patients. The coordination unit serves as the working area for doctors and nurses, where they communicate with patients through camera, and report the results. The patient recovery section is open to ensure sufficient airflow and easy cleaning. In this section, a designated clean zone is clearly separated from the infectious zone, and the section features a medical-grade wastewater treatment system.
The SCCC offers amenities such as Wi-Fi, refrigerator, electric fan, washing machine, microwave, bed sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, full meals, as well as personal appliances. Observed patients must bring personal belongings, such as underwear in sufficient amounts during their stay, mobile phone, tablet, headphones, charging cables, hair dryer, adaptor or external batteries, sleep mask, earplugs, along with recreational equipment such as books, drawing booklets, and games that don’t involve large groups.
