PSU co-hosts 2025 SSAMESA conference

Prince of Songkla University (PSU), in collaboration with Kunming Medical University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, People’s Republic of China, co-hosted the 2025 South and Southeast Asia Medical Education and Service Alliance Conference (2025 SSAMESA Conference) under the theme “Digital Intelligence Empowerment, Shaping the Future Together — Building a New Paradigm of Regional Medical Education and Healthcare Cooperation.” The conference was held from 30 November to 3 December 2025 at the Conrad Hotel Bangkok, Thailand.
 
The event was attended by PSU executives led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University; Asst. Prof. Dr. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumitra Pratep, Vice Dean for Global Affairs  and Corporate Communication, Faculty of Medicine. More than 100 participants from leading universities in China, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Thailand also joined the conference.

The conference featured an executive meeting to present the SSAMESA network’s achievements over the past year and to jointly define future strategic directions among member institutions. The program also welcomed new member universities, expanding the scope and strengthening regional collaboration.

Keynote and special lectures were delivered by distinguished experts, including Prof. Dr. Vicharn Panich, University Council Member (Expert); Prof. Xia Xueshan, President of Kunming Medical University; Prof. Fan Xianqun, Chairman of SSAMESA, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Chancellor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; and Prof. Dr. Virasakdi Chongsuvivatwong, Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University.

In addition, panel discussions by representatives from SSAMESA member universities addressed key issues such as faculty and medical student exchange and innovation in medical education across South and Southeast Asia, aiming to enhance future medical teaching and learning.

The conference also showcased more than 30 academic and research presentations covering major themes in medical education and healthcare innovation, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, idea generation, and future collaboration.

Established in 2019, the SSAMESA Conference has been held continuously, with 2025 marking the first time the conference was hosted outside China. The conference aims to strengthen regional cooperation in medical education and healthcare services, while promoting the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to support joint innovation. Hosting the 2025 SSAMESA Conference highlights Prince of Songkla University’s leading role in regional medical collaboration and reaffirms its commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare standards toward a sustainable future.
