On 6 June 2024, PSU's Dr. Thanat Khoman ASEAN Studies Center organized the ASEAN Intervarsity Youth Competition 2024 (AIYC 2024) under the theme "ASEAN Youth Volunteerism for SDGs." This competition aimed to enhance the capabilities and leadership skills of youth and fostering collaboration between universities in ASEAN member countries. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wirote Youravong, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, presided over the opening ceremony, aligned with Asst. Prof. Dr. Supatra Davison, Assistant to the President for ASEAN Affairs and Creative Economy, and Asst. Prof. Sutthichai Ngamchuensuwan, a member of the organizing committee. The event was attended by university administrators, speakers, staff, and students from three countries—Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand—comprising a total of 45 participants from 10 universities. The opening took place at the President Office Building, PSU, Hat Yai Campus.
Dr. Wirote emphasized that AIYC 2024 provides an invaluable opportunity for youth to learn and exchange ideas. This event enables young people to actively engage in problem-solving and supports sustainable development initiatives. Involving youth in community work is a pivotal approach to fostering their participation in national development. Volunteering in projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) allows young individuals to gain insights into community issues and learn effective ways to contribute to solving problems within their communities, society, and country.
